‘Tis the Season to be Digging!
Our Favourite Quotes about Gardening
What better time to grab a spade and get down and dirty! And we’re not alone in our thinking! Here are 6 of our favourite quotes on gardens and gardening by some great minds:
1. “The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun and heart with nature” — Alfred Austin
2. “In every garden there is a child who believes in the seed fairy” — Robert Brault
3. “A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust”— Gertrude Jeklyll
4. “Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint and the soil and sky as canvas” — Elizabeth Murray
5. “To forget how to dig the earth and tend the soil is to forget ourselves” — Mahatma Gandhi
6. “Gardens are not made by singing ‘How Beautiful’ and sitting in the shade” — Rudyard Kipling
What inspiration to go outdoors and make a start!
We love these quotes because wherever we live, as humans the experience of tending a garden helps us feel connected with eachother as well as nature. We’re all dependent on, and in fellowship with, the earth, the soil, the seasons, sun and rain. We also share the same feelings of frustration, joy, surprise and reward from the results of our endeavours and hard work too.
So lets all pull on our wellies and get out there!
